Prince William schools closed Wednesday, 2 hour late opening Thursday possible

PWCS Weather Status Update

All schools will remain closed through Wednesday, January 27. Code Red for employees. All school division activities, including Professional Development sessions and adult classes and activities are cancelled. SACC will not open. Telework subject to policy. 

Work is continuing in an effort to reopen schools 2 hours late on Thursday, conditions, permitting. Any changes will be announced no later than 5:30 a.m. Thursday.
   
Recent weather-related changes have led to the following:   

The Teacher work day originally scheduled for Monday, February 1, will take place, as planned. There will be no classes for students on Monday;   
   
The end of the second grading period and associated distribution of report cards will be delayed by five days. This will affect delivery of transcripts to colleges; however, schools will be advised and likely understanding of the circumstances; 
   
SOL testing windows remain unchanged at this time, pending any future decision by the Virginia Department of Education;   
   
The celebration for teacher and principal of-the-year nominees, originally set for Thursday night is postponed to the snow date of February 23; and    
   
Weather-related changes through Thursday’s 2 hour delay (and including the day off for the March 1 primary election) leave PWCS with 6.5 days worth of hours before any risk of falling short of Virginia-required classroom time, according to a PWCS news release.
