A free children’s book festival, sponsored by Prince William County Schools, will be held at Freedom High School on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 7-8:45 p.m.
Authors and illustrators will talk about their experiences in reading and writing stories for children. Learn why it is never too early to read to a child, and it is never too late to get started. A wealth of resources will put parents and their children on the path toward building and maintaining enthusiasm for learning and reading, according to a news release.
While some books and activities will appeal to all ages, students in grades K–5 will meet authors and illustrators of books they know and will love to know.
Keynote speaker Floyd Cooper, award-winning illustrator of “The Blacker the Berry” and “Brown Honey in Broomwheat Tea,” will talk at 7 p.m. There will be numerous book-and-author sessions for children, including Rachel Renee Russell, author of the #1 New York Times Best Selling book series, “Dork Diaries;” Meg Medina, Rachel Renée Russell, David FitzSimmons, and Nancy Silcox, among many others.
