**UPDATES**

Crash – Fatality *ADDITIONAL CHARGES – On July 28th, investigators from the Crash Investigation Unit obtained an additional charge against the driver of the vehicle involved in the fatal crash which occurred in the area of Centreville Rd and Rugby Rd on July 26th. Investigators are requesting anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact police.
Arrested on July 28th:
Carroll Arness SMITH, 45, of 13219 Nassau Dr in Woodbridge
Additionally charged with involuntary manslaughter
Previously charged with driving under the influence and driving on a revoked license
Court date: September 10, 2015 | Status: released on summons

Crash – Fatality [Previously Released] – On July 26th at 5:45AM, investigators from the Crash Investigation Unit responded to the area of Centreville Rd and Rugby Rd in Manassas (20111) to investigate a single vehicle crash. The investigation revealed that the driver of a 1996 Infiniti I30t was traveling southbound on Centreville Rd in the area above when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole. The driver and passenger were both flown to an area hospital where the passenger died as a result of his injuries later that day. The driver remains hospitalized and is expected to recover. During the investigation, the driver was also determined to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Following the investigation, the driver was arrested. Additional charges are pending.
Identified:
The passenger was identified as Ellery Darnell PENN, 56, of Manassas

Armed Robbery *SUSPECT IDENTIFIED – On July 15th, detectives from the Robbery Unit identified one of the suspects involved in the robbery which was reported to have occurred in the 14400 block of Westminster Ln in Woodbridge on April 15th. The suspect, identified as the accused, Bryan PETTEWAY, is believed to have been the armed suspect in the incident. Following the investigation, detectives obtained warrants for his arrest. Attempts to locate the accused have been unsuccessful.

Described as a black male, 5’9”, 175lbs with black hair and brown eyes
Wanted for robbery, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony

Armed Robbery [Previously Released] – On April 15th at 11:02PM, officers responded to investigate a robbery which was reported to have occurred in the 14400 block of Westminster Ln in Woodbridge (22193). The victim, a 52 year old man of Woodbridge, reported to police that he was delivering a pizza to an address in the above area when he was approached by two unknown men. One of the suspects displayed a handgun and demanded the victim’s property. The suspects took money and the pizzas from the victim before fleeing on foot. No injuries were reported. A police K-9 was used to search for the suspects.
Suspect Descriptions:
Both suspects were described as black males, between 18 & 25 years of age, 5’6”-5’8” with a medium builds, dark complexions and black hair
1st suspect was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans

2nd suspect was last seen wearing a red jacket and blue jeans [armed suspect]

**INCIDENTS**

Malicious Wounding – On July 30th at 3:07AM, officers responded to the area of Bel Air Rd near Stevens Rd in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a shots fired call. The caller reported to police that two vehicles were seen driving away from the location shortly after hearing several gunshots. No other calls were reported. While investigating this report, a victim, a 35 year old man of Woodbridge, walked into an area hospital suffering a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the hand. Officers located multiple shell casings on Bel Air Rd in the area of the reported shooting. The incident is believed to have stemmed from a fight between the victim and other suspects. The victim was not cooperative with detectives regarding the incident and no other information was provided. No other injuries or property damage were reported. The investigation continues. This incident is not believed to have been random.

Strong Armed Robbery | Abduction – On July 29th at 12:00AM, officers responded to investigate a robbery which was reported to have occurred in the 14600 block of Brook Dr in Woodbridge (22193) around 11:23PM on July 28th. The victim, a 19 year old man of Woodbridge, reported to police that he was outside of the his residence in the above area when he was approached by an unknown tan colored pickup truck. The victim further reported that he was forced into the truck by multiple suspects where a struggle ensued. During the alteration, multiple shots were fired inside the vehicle. The victim was eventually able to out of the vehicle a short distance away and reported the incident to officers at the Garfield Police Station. Money was reported missing during the encounter. The victim possibly knew one of the suspects involved. The investigation continues. This incident is not believed to have been random.

Residential Burglary – On July 29th at 11:15AM, officers responded to a residence located in the 8200 block of Linblake Ct in Manassas (20111) to investigate a burglary. The homeowner reported to police that the burglary occurred between 5:00AM and 7:00PM on July 24th. The investigation revealed that there were no signs of forced entry into the residence. Entry is believed to have been made through a basement level window. Rolls of coins and other property were reported missing.

Residential Burglary – On July 28th at 6:10PM, officers responded to an apartment located in the 7300 block of Yountville Dr in Gainesville (20155) to investigate a burglary. The resident of the apartment reported to police that the burglary occurred between 7:00AM and 6:00PM. The investigation revealed that there were no signs of forced entry into the residence. A gaming console and other property were reported missing.

Residential Burglary – On July 28th at 5:30PM, officers responded to a residence located in the 7900 block of Ashland Ave in Manassas (20109) to investigate a burglary. The homeowner reported to police that the burglary occurred between 12:00PM on July 26th and 12:00PM on July 28th. The investigation revealed that entry was made into the residence through a rear door which was found damaged. Damage to multiple windows, interior walls and fixtures were noted. No property was reported missing.

Residential Burglary – On July 28th at 1:30PM, officers responded to a residence located in the 1600 block of Whistling Swan Way in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a burglary. The homeowner reported to police that the burglary occurred between 12:00AM and 9:30AM. The investigation revealed that there were no signs of forced entry into the residence. Entry was made into the residence through an open garage door and then through an unlocked interior door. A wallet containing money and other property were reported missing.

Residential Burglary – On July 26th at 2:07PM, officers responded to a residence located in the 3500 block of Sophia Ct in Woodbridge (22193) to investigate a burglary. The homeowner reported to police that the burglary occurred around 2:00PM on July 24th. The investigation revealed that there were no signs of forced entry into the residence. Entry was made into the residence through an open garage door. Two bicycles were reported missing.

**ARRESTS**

Sexual Battery – On July 29th at 12:47AM, officers responded to investigate an assault which was reported to have occurred at a residence located in the 8000 block of Ashland Ave in Manassas (20109) between 2:00AM on July 20th and 2:00AM on July 21st. The investigation revealed that the victim, an 18 year old woman of Manassas, was sexually assaulted by the accused, a known acquaintance. Following the investigation, the accused was arrested.

Alex Arcadio RAMIREZ, 26, of the 8000 block of Ashland Ave in Manassas
Charged with sexual battery
Court date: September 4, 2015 | Bond: $8,000 secured

Assault & Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] – On July 25th at 6:30PM, officers working the concert at Jiffy Lube Live located at 7800 Cellar Door Dr in Bristow (20136) were informed by security that they were attempting to identify a male patron for an alcohol compliance issue when he became aggressive towards them and entered a bus parked in the parking lot of the venue. When officers encountered, the man, later identified as the accused, on the bus, he initially ignored commands to exit and cooperate with police. Officers were eventually able to escort the accused from the bus, at which point, he began to thrash his body and kick two of the officers multiple times. The accused was determined to be intoxicated and was detained. No injuries to the officers were reported. Following the investigation, the accused was arrested.
Arrested on July 25th:
Joseph William ABBOTT Jr., 23, of 11802 Rivershore Dr in Dunkirk, MD
Charged with 2 counts of assault & battery on a LEO, 1 count of disorderly conduct and 1 count of public intoxication
Court date: September 21, 2015 | Bond: $7,500 secured
