Area residents may enjoy a fall weekend in the countryside Sept. 27-28 experiencing life on a farm today and the rich rural history of western Prince William County during the 14th annual Farm Tour.
Farm tour hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, and noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Admission and parking are free to visitors due to generous sponsors. Some of the participating farms may offer services or locally grown products for purchase.
Nine locations with fun and educational activities for the whole family will be open to the public. Start at any location and visit as many of the farms as you wish, traveling in the comfort of your own vehicle.
Families, cameras and picnics are welcome. Restroom facilities will be available at some stops, picnic tables at other stops. Sorry, no pets are allowed.
One site, Oak Dale Baptist Church in Nokesville, (Stop #5) will have hot dogs and drinks available, Saturday only, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., with breathtaking views of the Blue Ridge, as always.
New for 2014 is the combination of Ben Lomond Community Center’s 40th anniversary (Saturday only 10 a.m.-3 p.m.) and the farm at Ben Lomond Historic Site (both days) on Sudley Manor Drive, Manassas.
Returning favorites are Evergreen Acres organic tomatoes and Christmas tree farm, Brentsville Courthouse 1850s farm, Yankey Farms pick your own pumpkins and more, Blue Top horse boarding, Oak Dale Baptist Church pit stop, Clover Meadows alpacas (and three llamas), Winery at La Grange and TrueFarms hydroponic lettuce operation.
