Prince William County Human Rights Commission will celebrate Universal Human Rights Day on Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, at 9 a.m. in the James J. McCoart Government Building, located at 1 County Complex Court in Woodbridge.
The program includes breakfast followed by a celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Civil Rights Act.
The annual Human Rights Awards, which are given to members of the community for their unique contributions to human and civil rights, will be presented.
Senator Henry Marsh has been invited to deliver the keynote address. U.S. Congressman Gerry Connolly has also been asked to speak about his Civil Rights Archives project.
Jeff Goldberg, the Virginia Bureau Chief for ABC7/WJLA-TV and News Channel 8, will serve as the master of ceremonies for the program.
The United Nations declared Universal Human Rights Day on Dec. 10, 1948, to recognize the inherent dignity and equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family as the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world.
