Prince William County VA officials have reached a three-year extension with Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) in their participation of the 287(g) program which allows Prince William County to turn over criminal illegal aliens apprehended by Prince William County law enforcement officers to ICE, according to a news release from Corey Stewart, chairman of the Board of County Supervisors.
Prince William County, led by Stewart, was the first large locality in the nation to participate in this program. To date, Prince William County has handed over more than 6,000 criminal illegal aliens and has seen violent crime plummet by nearly 50 percent, the news release said.
Chairman Stewart was quoted as saying, “I am very pleased that ICE decided to renew their agreement with the county. This program has made our county a safer and more desirable place to live. The positive results of this program have been undeniable.”
Stewart is the Chairman At-Large of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors. He was elected to his first term in 2006. Prince William County is located in Northern Virginia and is the Commonwealth’s second largest county with a population of approximately 430,000 residents.
