Prince William Area Agency on Aging receives national recognition

The National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (n4a) has recognized Prince William Area Agency on Aging with an Aging Achievement Award in the Home & Community-Based Services category for its Prince William Adult Day Health Care (ADHC) Program, which serves adults with severe cognitive impairments.

n4a recognized the ADHC for the program offerings it provided to people with cognitive impairments and dementia both prior to and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Beginning in 2014, the ADHC hosted outings once each month, which provided an opportunity for participants to engage in amiliar and new leisure excursions, learn life skills and be active, contributing members of the community.

When the pandemic hit in March 2020, the Agency on Aging introduced self-directed programming that caregivers could perform in their homes with their loved ones. In addition to the in-home programming, the ADHC provided drive-through activities that participants and their caregivers could participate in without leaving their vehicles.

n4a recognized the Area Agency on Aging for its sensitivity in recognizing a potentially underserved group and its creativity in meeting that group’s needs.
