Saving lives, improving community health, and teaching job skills are a few of the benefits of grants to PWCS from the Potomac Health Foundation.
The grants have focused on access to health services, prevention, and innovation, and include:
• Prince William County School of Practical Nursing ($173,977) – Funding supported the new patient simulation laboratory, enabling graduating nursing students to increase their skill proficiency and minimize orientation hours needed to train new nurses;
• Human Trafficking Prevention, Identification, and Referral ($206,935) – The project focuses on prevention of physical/emotional trauma experienced by victims of human trafficking and addressing the mental health effects of those involved or at risk of being involved in human trafficking victimization.
• Coordinated Mental Health Support for At-Risk Youth ($172,474) – This program is focused on improved outcomes for students with significant mental health issues through collaboration between PWCS and other agencies, including transitioning back to school with the help of a case manager.
• Biomedical Science Project Lead the Way ($57,600) – This latest grant incorporates biomedical science in the Project Lead the Way engineering curriculum and provides professional development for teachers. The aim is to increase the number of students who are successful in gaining entry into healthcare training programs after graduation from high school.
