On Friday, March 1, 2024 qt 3:07 PM Prince William County fire and rescue units were dispatched to the 2400 block of Port Potomac Avenue in Woodbridge for a reported house fire, according to Fire Marshal Mat Smolsky.
Crews arrived with heavy fire in a single-family dwelling’s garage quickly spreading throughout the structure. The dwelling sustained extensive damage and was declared unsafe to occupy by the Building Official.
The home’s occupants had safely evacuated after discovering the fire. The fire was quickly brought under control . One person was transported with a non-life-threatening injury to a local medical facility for evaluation. The Red Cross is assisting the one adult and four children displaced by the incident.
The Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire was accidental originating in the engine compartment of a vehicle parked in the garage, according to Assistant Chief/Fire Marshal Matt Smolsky.
