Pedestrian fatality on US 1 in Woodbridge VA early May 22

Fatal Crash Investigation – On May 22nd at 4:15AM, investigators from the Crash Investigation Unit responded to the area of Jefferson Davis Hwy and the Prince William Pkwy in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a vehicle crash involving a pedestrian.

The investigation revealed that the pedestrian, an adult male, was crossing Jefferson Davis Hwy in the area above when he was struck by the driver of 2005 Freightliner tractor trailer who was traveling southbound.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured and remained at the scene of the crash.

The investigation revealed that the pedestrian was in a designated crosswalk at the time of the crash; however, the crosswalk signal was not activated. When the pedestrian entered the roadway to cross Jefferson Davis Hwy, the traffic light transitioned from red to green.

Speed, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in this crash for the driver of the tractor trailer.

This is the third fatal crash of 2015 in Prince William County.

The driver of the 2005 Freightliner was identified as a 51 year old man of Wellford, SC
