This Thursday, December 17, at 10 AM, Supervisor Candland invites the community to join him, Supervisor John Jenkins, and members of Pat White’s family to celebrate the renaming and the legacy of Pat White at the Pat White Center at Ben Lomond, 10501 Copeland Drive, Manassas, VA 20109.
On October 6, 2015, the Prince William Board of County Supervisors unanimously voted to endorse the re-naming of the Ben Lomond Community Center to the “Pat White Center at Ben Lomond.”
Mrs. Pat White was instrumental in the creation of the Community Center in the 1970’s.
In 1971, she and her fellow members of the West Gate Women’s Club organized a community effort to save the historic Sudley Barn for use as a community center.
When the historic barn proved to be structurally unsalvageable, voters in what was then the Greater Manassas Sanitary District approved a $300,000 bond to construct a new community center on the site of the original barn.
On October 19, 1974, the Ben Lomond Community Center was dedicated.
Supervisor Candland commented “Pat White is a testament to what one dedicated individual can do for a community. Her passion and commitment to the Manassas area, resulted in a community center that has been a valuable resource for the area for over 40 years. I am extremely pleased to rename the Pat White Center at Ben Lomond in her honor.”
