At the Governing Council Retreat of the Virginia Association of Museums (VAM) in July, a new member from Prince William County was appointed to the Governing Council. He is Robert Orrison, who holds a B.A. in History from Longwood College (now University) and a M.A. in Public History from George Mason University.
Orrison has been with Prince William County Historic Preservation Division since 2006. He currently manages Ben Lomond Historic Site on Sudley Manor Drive in Manassas and Bristoe Station Battlefield Heritage Park off VA 619 in Bristow. He will serve as Director of Historic House Museums on the Virginia Association of Museums’ governing council
Orrison was quoted in a news release as saying, “It is really an honor considering all the great people on VAM Council. I think Virginia has the best museums of any state and I am looking forward to helping those institutions have the resources they need to effectively reach their audiences.”
Outside of his involvement with VAM, Orrison is Regional Director of Civil War Trails for Northern Virginia, treasurer for the Historic House Museum Consortium of Washington, D.C. and drector of the Northern Virginia Branch of Preservation Virginia.
