NVFD Santa to tour

Santa will take off some time from his North Pole duties to ride through local neighborhoods along with volunteers of the Nokesville Volunteer Fire Department’s Stations 5 (Nokesville) and 25 (Bristow), waving to children and their families.

“Santa still tosses candy to good boys and girls, but we do ask parents to keep the kids off the road until our units safely pass,” said Susan Frizzle of NVFD. “Of course, it is weather and emergency-call permitting, so changes are sure to take place. Santa will be out from 10 a.m.-5 p.m.”

He will be available during three consecutive weekends. On Saturday, Dec. 3, he will ride through Amberleigh Station/Silver Leaf, Morris Farm, the section to the right off Rollins Ford Road, Estate Manor, Saybrooke, Country Mill section of Braemar and Iona Sound section of Braemar. On Dec. 4, Santa will be in Ashley Ridge, Braemar, east of Sudley Manor, Foxborough, Kingsbrook and Morris Farm, the section to the left off Rollins Ford Road.

New Bristow Village will see Santa on Saturday Dec. 10, while Bridlewood Manor, Crossman Creek, Lanier Farms and Bridlewood are on his Dec. 11 itinerary.

Santa’s Dec. 17 itinerary includes Victory Lakes, Dunbarton, Braemar, the west side of Sudley Manor Drive and Braemar off Broadsword Drive to Native Rocks Drive. Dec. 18 has Santa visiting Braemar, off Tartan Hills after second circle, Sheffield Manor and Loma Drive. Safety is always a priority in every aspect of Christmas celebrations.

“Please think of your family’s safety this holiday season,” said Deputy Chief Andrew Frizzle. “Before using lights outdoors, check labels to be sure they have been certified for outdoor use. Make sure all the bulbs work and that there are no frayed wires, broken sockets or loose connections. Turn off all lights when you go to bed or leave the house. When setting up your tree at home, place it away from fireplaces and heaters. Do not burn wrapping paper in the fireplace. Carefully inspect new and previously used light strings and replace damaged items before using. You should always store fireplace ashes in a metal bucket outside your home.”

Nokesville Volunteer Fire Department welcomes new volunteers, who are at least 18, to help out at the station. More information is online: http://www.nvfdrs.org .

Editor’s note: other area fire station volunteers may be carting Santa around too.
