Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative’ is collecting non-perishable food for Operation Turkey Nov. 1-15, through its 501(c)(3) non-profit volunteer group NOVEC HELPS, Hands Engaged in Local Public Service. HELPS Food donations will help provide Thanksgiving meals for low-income people in Prince William County.
NOVEC HELPS will accept non-perishable food donations at the Co-op offices in Manassas, Gainesville, and Woodbridge. The SERVE campus of Northern Virginia Family Service, along with Action in Community Through Service, will distribute the food to people who need assistance. Anyone requiring a receipt must drop donated items at either the SERVE or ACTS location.
Donna Snellings, NOVEC public and government relations liaison, was quoted as saying, “The Co-op is rooted in the local community, so we feel these efforts help improve the lives of our customer-owners and neighbors.”
Suggested Food Items
Breads, biscuit, and muffin mixes; stuffing; instant mashed potatoes; rice; gravy; pasta; cranberry sauce and other canned fruit; canned vegetables; boxed desserts; sugar; flour; evaporated milk; pastry pie crusts; and pie filling. No glass jars please.
