Students from the Manassas Campus of Northern Virginia Community College brought home top honors from the Seventh Annual Mid-Atlantic Mathematics Regional Tournament held at Cecil Community College in North East, Maryland, April 11. Twenty teams participated in the competition.
The winning Manassas Campus math team members are Ali Al Shanoon, Marcus Domingo, Cheng Jin and Huitong Pan, all of Manassas. The team was accompanied to the tournament by faculty advisors Shakil Shrestha and Matthew Westerhoff.
“We are very proud of our math team. They competed very hard with equally deserving teams and won the tournament,” Shrestha said.
“Our team persevered through all the hard work, training and dedication. The students out-performed themselves and deserve this victory,” said Westerhoff.
Manassas Provost Roger Ramsammy offered congratulations. “Job well done!” he said. “Math is an integral part of each student’s academic success and we are proud that our champions showed the region just how phenomenal our Manassas students are.”
