Dr. LaTanya D. McDade, the first African American and the first woman to lead Prince William County’s public-school system, will spend her first 100 days engaged in a listening tour and strategic planning process.
Yesterday, July 1, Dr. McDade kicked off her tenure as Superintendent of Prince William County Public Schools with a promise to spend her first 100 days listening to and learning from students, teachers, employees, parents, and the community as she prepares for the upcoming school year.
In a welcome video, the new superintendent acknowledged the power of educators to “shape and mold bright young minds,” and noted that for many students the classroom serves as a second home and pillar of the community.
Dr. McDade released the following statement:
“Coming off a once-in-a-century pandemic, the past 16 months have been challenging for us all, and the herculean efforts of our teachers and staff have made a difference in the lives of our young people in profound ways that will serve many of them well into adulthood.”
” I am honored today to begin my tenure as your superintendent. I look forward to working alongside our students, families, communities, and staff to recover, accelerate, and reengage to build an equitable, inclusive, and transparent culture that supports the growth and development of our brightest minds.”
