Mom, 23, charged with two counts of felony child neglect

Felony Child Neglect – On May 21 at 11:16AM, Prince William County Police officers responded to the Sam’s Club located at 14050 Worth Ave. in Woodbridge (22192) to investigate a child neglect call. Upon arrival, the officers reported they located a vehicle that was not running and was occupied by an unsupervised 11-month-old boy.

According to MPO Renee Carr, public Information officer, the police officers forced entry into the locked vehicle and removed the child who was not injured.

Master Police Offficer Catt said the investigation revealed that the mother, identified as the accused, left the child and a 3-year-old boy, inside the vehicle while she went into the store. At one point, the 3-year-old exited the vehicle and made contact with another patron in the parking lot who notified the police.

Both children were transported to an area hospital and later released to a family member. The accused, identified as Esmeralda CHAVIRA, was arrested.
