Michael Lint, New Dominion Alternative Center chief, is Principal of the Year in PWC

Michael “Buddy” Lint, New Dominion Alternative Center Principal since 2010, has been named Prince William County Public Schools Principal of the Year! He was selected from among three principals nominated for the prestigious award. As the recipient of the School Division award, he now becomes a finalist in The Washington Post Principal of the Year recognition program. The winner will be announced in April.

Lint is recognized as a dynamic, enthusiastic leader of New Dominion Alternative Education Center, which has a population of students who are at-risk and have behavioral challenges.

He goes to great lengths to create an atmosphere of respect and harmony among the staff and the students. He is known as a compassionate and caring principal with the foresight, knowledge, and vision to help his school and his students on a daily basis.

His accomplishments include implementing a school discipline plan that encourages students to reflect on positive citizenship in school and the community. He brought innovation and technology to the Center to the point that his staff call themselves “savvy technological professionals.”

Under his leadership, his staff learned how to collect and analyze data to adjust daily lesson plans. He led a literacy committee to devise a plan to close the achievement gap in reading and writing. Lint encourages his staff to pursue professional development courses that will improve their knowledge about teaching a diverse student population. “

Neil Beech, Principal of Osbourn Park High School, and Andrew “Andy” Jacks, Principal of Ashland Elementary School, were also nominated for the PWCS Principal of the Year Award.
