May 14 is annual Green Community Day in Westridge

The Annual Community Green Day on Saturday, May 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. rain or shine is an opportunity for Westridge residents to:

• Contribute to the community through volunteer clean-up efforts throughout the community

• Enhance the natural beauty of Westridge

• Improve the environment by recycling and repurposing items

• Learn how some of the vendors who provide service to Westridge are doing their part to maintain the environment

• Learn how you can do more to preserve and enhance the world we live in.

Residents wishing to: dispose of papers, metal items, and/or used clothing, dispose of items not sold at the yard sale, learn about recycling and environmental preservation, support the Waves Swim Team by purchasing lunch at the concession stand and enjoy a beautiful day with friends and neighbors are invited to attend.

COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP
Residents are invited to come out and help clean up neighborhood roadsides, common areas and parkland. Trash bags will be available at the Clubhouse during the week prior. American Disposal trash trucks will pick up bags placed at the curb on Saturday beginning at 10:30 AM until noon.  Again this year: all participants will receive a free five-visit pool guest pass.

Office Shredding will provide secure on-site confidential destruction. USED CLOTHING COLLECTION

Please bring your gently used clothing to benefit ACTS, a local non-profit organization providing relief, fostering hope, and promoting self-sufficiency for our Prince William area neighbors in crisis due to hunger, homelessness and personal violence.

EXPO
Not only will the Westridge Homeowners Association provide free shredding, metal recycling, and used clothing collection, several vendors, organizations and volunteers will be on hand with useful information, games, give-a-ways and more. Here’s a partial list of those companies participating in the expo:

• American Disposal: Learn about recycling and refuse disposal.

• Virginia Cooperative Extension: Master Gardner Catherine Turner will share information and gardening tips.

• Prince William Neighborhood Services: Learn how PWC works to keep our neighborhoods beautiful.

• ValleyCrest Landscape Maintenance will provide helpful information about landscaping and tree maintenance.

• Windchazer, Inc.: Come meet the Border Collies that help manage the Canada Geese population around our pond

• Mosquito Joe: Learn about mosquito control.

• Norwex: Learn about natural cleaners and personal care products

• Doody Calls: Learn how proper pet waste management protects us and our environment

• Volunteer Booths/Demonstrations: Natural cleaners/Plastic Surgery: Removing Plastic from Your Home/Go Green, Save Green/Water Pollution Demonstration for kids

Games and activities for kids will be provided.

Concessions will be provided by the Westridge Waves. All proceeds will benefit the Westridge Waves Swim Team.
