Between now and mid-April, Prince William County elementary and middle schools will hold grade-level competitions for students in grades 3–8 to determine their entry in the 15th Annual Mathematics Challenge 24 Tournament. Interested students should check with their teachers to see if their school participates in this tournament.
In the “Game of 24,” students apply their math skills in computation, problem solving, number sense, critical thinking, and pattern sensing to find a way to mathematically combine four numbers to equal 24.
Depending on their grade level, students use whole numbers, fractions, and decimals and solve multi-step problems using integers and algebraic notation.
