Matt Smolsky, Assistant Chief, reported at 6 p.m. Tuesday, “It’s been a very busy afternoon. Earlier today, the National Weather Service issued a “red flag” warning for the entire region up until 8:00 PM. The combination of dry conditions, low humidity, and strong gusty winds may result in favorable conditions for the rapid spread of fires.’
A total of 39 outside and brush fires have been dispatched since Noon today. The majority of those being small fires but we are working three larger fires at the following locations:
• 4700 blk Locust Shade & Rt. 1 – units un Triangle area are still actively fighting brush fire. This incident is also reported at Richmond Highway/Russell Road.
• Richmond Hwy northbound is closed for fire department operations.
• 2800 block of Dale Blvd. – units clearing soon.
• 10600 block of Parkgate Dr in Nokesville– units clearing soon.
No injuries or damage to structures have been reported. We have received assistance from Quantico, Stafford, Manassas, Manassas Park, and Fairfax County.
It appears things are quieting down. All fires are under control and the number of dispatches has slowed. More normal weather conditions are predicted for tomorrow.
