Manassas wants residents’ phone numbers to test CodeRED

On Wednesday, March 26 at 10 a.m., the City of Manassas will put out a phone call to all City of Manassas residents to test the CodeRED emergency telephone notification system and to clean up phone numbers no longer in use. 

CodeRED is the emergency communication network used by the city to send out emergency messages to all residents for timely notifications during major emergencies.

Residents and businesses are asked to register their telephone numbers with the system before the March 26 phone call is sent so that they will receive emergency notices from the City. This system will only be used in emergencies. 

Residents should include their first and last name, street address (no P.O. boxes, please), city, state, zip code and phone number. 

CodeRED is capable of contacting only those in certain areas if an emergency should dictate that notification should be made to a smaller portion of the City. The system will send phone calls to landlines, cell phones or send text messages and emails, if you choose. 

CodeRED’s incoming phone number that residents will see on their caller ID is 999-911-9999.

Those without Internet access may call 703-257-8891 to be registered by phone.

Residents should not assume that their telephone number is already in the system as many residents have changed phone services or home phone numbers since the system was last updated.
