Dr. Gail E. Pope, Superintendent of Manassas City Public Schools, has been bestowed with the honor “Region IV Superintendent of the Year” by the Virginia Association of School Superintendents.
Pope was selected for the honor from among the 20 city and county school divisions in Region IV. The included school divisions are those serving the counties of Prince William, Arlington, Clarke, Culpeper, Fairfax, Rappahannock, Shenandoah, Fauquier, Frederick, Loudoun, Madison, Orange, Page, and Warren and the cities of Manassas, Manassas Park, Alexandria, Fairfax, Falls Church and Winchester.
Pope learned she had been chosen for the top regional superintendent honor while she was attending the April meeting of the Region IV division superintendents. Former Manassas school superintendent Dr. James Upperman, who chairs the Region IV nominating committee, made the announcement.
Pope said she “was deeply humbled and honored when I found out I was selected for the award,” according to a Manassas city schools news release.
