Manassas police use technology to locate missing phone and laptop

Larceny from Auto
At approximately 3:00PM on October 23, 2013 Manassas City Police responded to the area of Lee Ave and Peabody St in reference to a larceny.  According the victim, someone(s) reached into the open window of her vehicle while it was parked and removed an Apple iPhone 5 and a Mac Book Pro laptop valued together at approximately $3,000.00.  Upon further investigation using current GPS tracking technology, Officers and the victim were able to locate the missing items and retrieve them from a residence on the 7300 block of Centreville Rd.  This is an ongoing investigation.

Fraud
At approximately 4:00PM on October 23, 2013 Manassas City Police responded to the 9800 block of Grant Ave in reference to fraud.  The victim reported that she received a first-class letter in the mail from a fraudulent mystery shopper agency known as the “FTY Network.”  The victim was provided with a check for $1,975.35 and a set of instructions on how to proceed shopping with the funds and withdraw $240.00 as her commission.  After depositing the check and withdrawing the commission, the victim was notified by her bank that the check was false and had not cleared.

Burglary
On October 23, 2013 Manassas City Police met with residents on the 9600 block of Diane Ct in reference to a burglary.  According to the victims, someone(s) made entry into their home through a basement window.  The time of the break-in is unknown however, as a result a laptop sustained heavy water damage and a Nexus tablet valued at approximately $275.00 was reported missing.

Grand Larceny - Arrest
A Manassas City Police Officer was patrolling the area of “Falcon Communications,” located at 9500 Technology Dr, at approximately 12:45AM on Saturday, October 19, 2013 when he observed a vehicle stationed in the roadway without its lights on.  The Officer then noticed a man approaching the vehicle from the business and a woman waiting in the passenger seat.

Upon further investigation, Officers discovered that the two individuals had stolen two air conditioning units, six electric motors, and copper pipe valued at over $800.00 from the business.

Joseph M Comer (27) and Katrina Anne Hodges (28) of Manassas Park were arrested for grand larceny and subsequently released on their own recognizance.  They have a pending court date of November 19, 2013.
