Manassas Police investigate sexual assault, burglary, hit & run, and phone scam

Sexual Battery
On January 11, 2018 at 7:06 p.m., officers from the Manassas City Police Department responded to the 9000 block of Sandalwood Dr for a report of a sexual battery.  The victim, a 25-year-old resident of Manassas, told police she was walking on the sidewalk along the 9000 block of Sandalwood Dr when she was approached by a male subject wearing a ski mask.  The male subject grabbed the victim’s groin area over her clothing, and then fled the scene on foot.  No injuries were reported.  The suspect is described as a white or Hispanic teenage male, approximately four feet tall with a slim build.  The suspect was last seen wearing a gray and white camouflage hoodie, dark pants, and a ski mask.  Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact the Manassas City Police Department at 703-257-8000, or the Manassas City/Manassas Park Crime Solvers at 703-330-0330.

Burglary
On January 10, 2018 at 6:47 a.m., officers from the Manassas City Police Department responded to the 9000 block of Prince William St for a report of a burglary.  The victim told police sometime between January 6th and January 7th someone forced entry into several apartments under construction and stole multiple household appliances and lighting fixtures.  The investigation is ongoing. 

Hit and Run
On January 10, 2018 at approximately 10:30 a.m., officers of the Manassas City Police Department responded to 8402 Digges Rd (7-Eleven) for a report of a hit and run. The victim told police on January 9, 2018 at approximately 4:40 p.m., her vehicle was struck on the driver’s side quarter panel while she was inside the business. Surveillance video captured the incident. The suspect is described as a heavy-set black male driving a dark colored Ford extended cab pickup truck.

Phone Scam
On January 10, 2018 at approximately 5:28 p.m., officers of the Manassas Police Department met with a complainant for a report of a phone scam. The victim told police she received a phone call advising her there was a warrant for her arrest for being delinquent on a loan.  The caller also stated her wages were being garnished as a result of the delinquent loan. The complainant determined these claims to be fraudulent and contacted police.

Crime Prevention Tip: If you receive a call that seems suspicious, hang-up and do research. If it turns out to be legitimate, you can always call back.
