Manassas police close the Case of the Suspicious / Threatening Notes

On June 19, following a lead provided by the Prince William County Police Department’s Crime Analysis Unit, detectives from the Manassas City and Prince William County Police Departments interviewed a 21 year old male suspect who admitted to being responsible for all the suspicious/threatening notes incidents that occurred between December 2012 and March 2013.

Further investigation revealed that the suspect has a mental disability.

In coordination with mental health services, the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, and the young man’s family, it was decided that public safety and his welfare will be best served through continued and improved services and supervision.

He will not be charged with any crimes at this time.  Detectives are facilitating restitution between the young man’s family and the victims of property damage, according to Sgt. Lowell nevill, the city police department’s public information officer.

***Between 12/4/12 and 3/5/13, there were approximately 20 suspicious incidents (including several in Prince William County), mostly in the Sumner Lake subdivision, where threatening notes were left on doors and/or a suspicious subject was seen. Vandalism/Destruction of Property incidents were also reported.

End of crime report for June 21, 2013.
