Manassas city residents threatened with utility cut-off

The City of Manassas Public Works and Utilities Department reports that it has received several calls from residents who have been contacted by a fraudulent company.  The fraudulent caller says he or she is the “utility company” and that they are going to shut off the person’s power unless a credit card number is given to the caller.

According to Patty Prince, communications coordinator for the city of Manassas, city’s Public Works and Utilities Department will not ask for a credit card number, nor for a social security number.  If you are contacted by this fraudulent company, please hang up.  If you are concerned about the status of your utilities, contact the Public Works and Utilities Department at 703-257-8245.
