Manassas City Police report robbery, attempted fraud, larceny and lookout for suspect

Robbery

At approximately 1:40 a.m. on July 20, 2016, Manassas City Police responded to the 8600 block of Devonshire Ct for a report of a robbery that had just occurred. The victim, a 58-year-old male cab driver of Manassas, told officers that he was dispatched to pick up customers whose destination was an unknown address in Fairfax County. The victim reported that two customers, both black males in their early 20s, entered his vehicle and refused to pay a fare or provide a destination for their trip. After a brief verbal confrontation, one of the male subjects assaulted the driver, causing non-life-threatening injuries. All three parties exited the vehicle and the suspects were last seen running towards Bruton Parish Ct.

Attempted Fraud
On July 19, 2016, Manassas City Police responded to a business located at 9026 Mathis Ave for a report of an attempted fraud. The reporting party told officers that someone claiming to be a representative of Dominion Power called and told an employee that the business was behind on its utility payments. The caller said that he was prepared to have the business’s electricity cut off if he did not receive payment from them soon. The employee recognized the call as a scam, hung up the phone, and called Police.

Don’t believe callers, emails or texts that say they are from a utility company and that your account is past due. The City of Manassas is the sole provider of utilities in the City of Manassas (20110), and will not call customers demanding money. When in doubt about the status of your account, please call Public Works Customer Service line directly at 703-257-8219. Payments to the Public Works Department are never accepted in the form of prepaid cards, but may be made in person at 8500 Public Works Dr, by phone, and online. Larceny
On July 20, 2016, Manassas City Police responded to ARS Heating and Air Conditioning located at 9070 Euclid Ave for a report of a larceny. The reporting party told officers that sometime between 1:40 a.m. on July 19 and 7 a.m. on July 20, someone entered the property through a rear gate and broke in to three work trucks at the business. Several tools and other equipment items of an undetermined value were reported stolen, to include Freon tanks, a welding torch, and a digital scale.

Person wanted by Manassas City Police
Manassas City Police have posted a lookout for David Luis Mendoza, 18, white (Hispanic) male, 5 feet, 5 inches tall and weighing 115 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes, wanted for weapons charges and is believed to be involved in several recent shooting in the Georgetown South community in Manassas City.
