Manassas City Police make arrest for alleged child abuse

Child Abuse – Arrest
At approximately 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 3, 2016, a three-month-old infant of Manassas was admitted to a local hospital in a state of respiratory distress. Through rapid testing, officers learned the infant was under the influence of the opiate substance methadone, according to a report from the Manassas City Police Department.

Further investigation by Manassas City Detectives revealed that Jessica F. NICHOLSON, 31, of 8386 Tillett Loop allegedly administered the opiate to the victim in an attempt to calm the infant. NICHOLSON was charged with Child Abuse and has a pending court date of Feb. 7, 2017.

The victim is expected to recover without any long-term health complications stemming from the incident. The investigation is continuing, according to police department spokesman Adrienne Helms.
