Manassas City Police Department honored the life and service of fallen police officer, Sergeant John David Conner, III, at a special wreath-laying ceremony at Quantico National Cemetery Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at 10 AM. The MCPD Honor Guard and staff attended the service and placed a wreath on Conner’s gravesite during the ceremony.
July 24, 2013 marked the 25th anniversary of the murder of Sergeant Conner. The ceremony was held to commemorate his life, career and ultimate sacrifice. Sergeant Conner has been the only Manassas City Police Officer to die in the line of duty.
According to a news release from MCPD Sgt. Lowell Nevill, In the Point of Woods neighborhood, near the intersection of Stonewall Road and McKenzie Circle, there is a gazebo and tribute plaque, which reads; “Sergeant John D. Conner III - A community hero who made the ultimate sacrifice. May he be remembered for his strength and courage. End of Watch - July 24th, 1988.”
