Manassas city police beat for 8/16/13

Fraud, False Pretense - Arrest
Manassas City Police responded to a suspicious event call on Wednesday afternoon, August 14, 2013.  A resident on the 9200 block of Peabody Street reported that a man, whom she had paid to work on her home’s gutters, had not actually done the work.  The investigation led to the arrest the same evening of Shawn Christopher Berry (36) of 314 Lewis Street, Culpeper.  He was charged with Obtaining Money by False Pretense and held at the Adult Detention Center pending a September 24, 2013 court appearance.  He also was also served with outstanding warrants for similar charges from another jurisdiction.

Brandishing a Firearm – Arrest
Manassas City Police responded to the 8600 block of Devonshire Court at approximately 11:50PM Thursday, August 8, 2013 for the report of a man brandishing a handgun.  Upon arrival, Officers learned that the suspect had brandished a handgun at two people who were trying to interrupt a heated argument he was having with his girlfriend.  The suspect and girlfriend had walked back to his residence at 8659 Braxted Lane, where Officers took the suspect into custody without incident.  His girlfriend was found to be safe.  Gary Medford Draper (33) was charged with two counts of Brandishing a Firearm.  He was held at the Adult Detention Center and later released on a bond, pending a September 3, 2013 court appearance.

Larceny from Auto
Manassas City Police is investigating the theft of items from two cars parked on the 8800 block of Jackson Ave.  The owners discovered the thefts at 9:00AM Wednesday, August 14, 2013.  Though the owners believed the cars had been locked overnight, there was no evidence of forced entry.  Jewelry, cash, a wallet containing gift cards, and a GPS unit were reported missing.
