Manassas city police beat for 6/11/13

Larceny
On June 3, 2013 at approximately 1:30 p.m. Manassas City Police Officers responded to the 8700 block of Quarry Rd for a report of a larceny.  According to the victim, someone(s) cut and stole a ten-inch copper pipe from an air conditioning unit over the previous weekend.  The pipe’s removal caused damage to the unit estimated at approximately $1,000.00.

Larceny from a Motor Vehicle (Honda)
On June 8, 2013 at approximately 6:00 a.m. Manassas City Police Officers responded to the 10300 block of Butternut Cir for a report of larceny from a motor vehicle.  According to the victim, someone(s) forced entry into his 1990 Honda Civic and stole a Sony Head Unit and Sony Subwoofer sometime between 6:00 p.m. June 7th and 6:00 a.m. June 8th.  The victim also reported a separate incident around May 27, 2013 where he had noticed his gas tank might have been pried open and sugar poured into his gas tank.

Vandalism to Automobile (Honda)
On June 8, 2013 at approximately 3:00 p.m. Manassas City Police Officers were dispatched to the 9000 block of Sandalwood Dr for a report of vandalism to an automobile.  According to the victim, someone(s) broke and removed a passenger side window of his Honda that had been parked in front of his residence between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on June 8th.

Larceny from Motor Vehicle (Honda)
At approximately 9:00 a.m. on June 8, 2013 a Manassas City Police Officer was patrolling the area of Berkshire St and discovered a 2001 Honda Civic with its driver side window broken and glass in the street.  According to the victim and a witness, the window had been broken sometime between 10:00 p.m. on June 7th and 9:00 a.m. on June 8th.  Upon further investigation, the Officer discovered that a second Honda Civic (1999) in front of the first had also been broken into on the driver side.


**ARRESTS**

Destruction of Property
At approximately 11:00 p.m. on June 8, 2013 Manassas City Police Officers responded to the 9400 block of Main St for a fight in progress.  During the altercation, significant damage valued at approximately $1,500.00 was done to a nearby Nissan Sentra.  Jakk Kavanagh (23) of Alexandria was arrested and charged with Destruction of Property and Intoxicated in Public and held on a $5,000.00 secured bond.  His court date was set for July 23, 2013.

Motor Vehicle Theft (Red Ford Ranger)
On June 7, 2013 at approximately noon, Manassas City Police Officers responded to Manassas Public Auto Auction located at 8846 Mathis Ave for a report of a stolen automobile.  According to an employee, the company’s 1995 Red Ford Ranger had been stolen from their lot between 12:00 a.m. and 12:30 a.m. on June 4, 2013.  Video surveillance captured footage of a dark skinned male wearing a solid dark colored t-shirt, jeans and white shoes enter multiple vehicles on the property before leaving in the stolen vehicle and heading northbound on Mathis Ave.

At approximately 2:45 a.m. on June 8, 2013 a Manassas City Police Officer discovered the same truck during an unrelated traffic stop.  Andrew Hembry, Jr (50) of an unknown address was arrested and charged with Possession of a Stolen Automobile and License Plate, Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of a Controlled Substance.  Hembry was held without bond and has a court date set for June 25, 2013.

Stolen Property (BMW 325i)
On June 8, 2013 at approximately 1:00 a.m. Manassas City Police Officers responded to the 9400 block of Taney Rd in reference to a stolen vehicle.  According to the victim, his friend removed the keys to his 2003 BMW 325i from his home without his permission sometime between 8:00 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on June 7, 2013.  Upon further investigation, Police discovered that the suspect, Daniel Venitez (25) of 9425 Taney Rd had been arrested by Prince William County Police for driving without a license.  Once in custody, Venitez was also charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle and held on a $5,000.00 secure bond.  His court date was set for June 25, 2013.

Aggravated Assault
On June 7, 2013 at approximately 6:00 p.m. Manassas City Police Officers were dispatched to 9325 Wellington Rd for a 9-1-1 hang-up.  Upon responding to the address, the Officers were advised of an altercation that had occurred by the three men on the scene.  According to the victim, his vehicle, a 2000 Mercedes E320, was at the same address having work done.  When he arrived to check on his vehicle, he discovered that the other two men who were shop employees had taken it out for a joy ride without his permission.

According to the three involved and one nearby witness, an argument ensued.  The victim said that during the confrontation, James Lee Jack (49) of Fairfax began threatening him with a kitchen knife, at which point the victim removed his gun from a holster and held it at his waist.  No injuries were sustained as a result.  Glen Felix Thomas (55) of Gainesville and Jack were arrested and charged with Intoxicated in Public.  Once in custody, Jack was also charged with Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, Attempted Malicious Wounding, Obstruction of Justice, Destruction of Property and two counts of Threats to Law Enforcement and was held without bond.  Each has a pending court date of July 23, 2013.
