Manassas City Police Beat 7/9/12

Aggravated Assault
On July 6, 2012, at approximately 12:30 a.m., a Manassas City Police Officer was monitoring traffic in the 9700 block of Aspen Place when someone struck his vehicle with a rock, causing damage to the vehicle’s trunk.  Further investigation revealed that the landscaping rock came from a nearby front yard. An unknown male was observed videotaping the officer as he was checking the damage to his cruiser. An extensive search for suspects was conducted, with negative results. This is an ongoing investigation.

Brandishing
On July 3, 2012, at approximately 10:15 p.m., Manassas City Police Officers received information regarding a brandishing that occurred on Hastings Drive, near Peachwood Road. The victim told officers that he and his wife were walking on Hastings Road when a Hispanic male, driving a burgundy Chrysler Sebring, pulled up to them and started talking to the victim’s wife. When confronted, the suspect brandished a firearm at the victim then drove off towards Dumfries Road. This is an ongoing investigation.

Larceny
Manassas City Police Officers are investigating a larceny that occurred at Home Depot, located at 8805 Liberia Avenue. An employee told officers that on July 2, 2012, at approximately 8 p.m., the suspect was seen leaving the store pushing a cart full of merchandise. He was described as black with grey hair. He was seen driving away in a white 2004 Chevy, displaying Virginia tag number WZH-9554. This is an ongoing investigation.

Theft From Motor Vehicles - Manassas City Police Officers are investigating three separate incidents regarding thefts from motor vehicles.

The first incident occurred between midnight and 12:20 p.m. on June 30, 2012, in the 9400 block of Peabody Street. The victim told officers that someone(s) stole approximately $2,000 worth of tools from one of his work vans.

The second incident occurred sometime between July 2, 2012 and July 3, 2012 on Plantation Lane, near Forestwood Lane. The victim told officers that someone(s) stole approximately $2,000 worth of tools from his work truck.

The third incident occurred between 10 .m. on July 2, 2012 and 11 p.m., on July 3, 2012, in the 8700 block of Deblanc Place. The victim told officers that someone(s) stole a TomTom GPS from her unlocked vehicle. The GPS was valued at approximately $100. These investigations are ongoing.

Motor Vehicle Theft
On June 22, 2012, the victim reported to the Manassas City Police Department that at approximately 5 a.m., someone stole her unlocked vehicle while it was left running, in the 9700 block of Bragg Lane. The vehicle, a 2000 Dodge, was later involved in a hit and run in Prince William County. Witnesses told officers that they observed two males running from the vehicle. This is an ongoing investigation.

Residents are reminded not to leave anything of value inside their vehicles and to always keep their vehicles locked.

Burglary
On July 6, 2012, Manassas City Police Officers responded to Stonewall Pool, located at 8521 Stonewall Road, regarding a burglary. Upon their arrival, employees told them that they arrived at 8:30 a.m. and discovered that someone(s) had broken into the facility’s concession stand and had also vandalized a portion of the fence surrounding the pool. The incident occurred between 10:30 p.m. on July 5, 2012 and 8:30 a.m. on July 6, 2012. This is an ongoing investigation.

Burglary
Manassas City Police officers are investigating a burglary that occurred between 2 and 6:05 p.m. on July 8, 2012 in the 9700 block of Main Street. The victim told officers that he arrived home to find that his residence had been burglarized. Stolen from the home was an IMAC computer, valued at $1,300, a Dynex television, valued at $500, a Dynex Surround Sound system, valued at $300. and a Sony Playstation game system, also valued at $300. This is an ongoing investigation.
