Manassas City Police Beat 3/29/12

Marijuana Citation
On March 27, 2012, at approximately 11:30 p.m, a Manassas City Police Officer was patrolling the green area behind Beech Pl, when he smelled the odor resembling burnt marijuana coming from the backyard of a residence in the 9700 Block of Beech Pl.  Upon further investigation, it was discovered that two individuals, Joseph Hemlett II and a juvenile, were smoking marijuana. Hemlett received one summons for Possession of Marijuana and another for Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor. The juvenile was cited for Underage Possession of Tobacco Products.  Their court date is set for May 15, 2012.

Vandalism
On March 28, 2012 at approximately 3:15 p.m., a Manassas City Police Officer responded to a residence on the 8700 block of Fort Drive, regarding a vandalism. The victim’s son notified the officer that some time between mid-December, 2011 and March 28, 2012, someone gained entry into the pool area in the rear of the residence through a chain-link fence. The suspect threw several cement blocks into the pool, which punctured the pool lining and caused all the water to leak.  Damages are estimated at $4,000. This is an ongoing investigation.

Armed Robbery
Manassas City Police Officers are investigating a robbery that occurred at the “Baskin Robbins”, located at 10090 Dumfries Rd. A store employee advised officers that on March 28, 2012 at approximately 7:30 p.m., the suspect entered the store and went into the bathroom for approximately two minutes.  The suspect, displaying a handgun, then went behind the counter and demanded that the employee open the cash register.  He then ordered the employee to go to the back room. 

While the suspect took money from the register, he ordered the employee to leave the store.  The employee was able to call 9-1-1 from a business nearby.  The suspect fled in an unknown direction with an undisclosed amount of cash from the store. The suspect is described as a black male with a “goatee”, approximately 5’6” and 160 lbs.  He was wearing a hooded pale green jacket, a black t-shirt, blue skinny jeans, and athletic shoes containing red (possibly “Air Jordans”). This is an ongoing investigation.
