Manassas City Police Beat 3/13/12

Burglary
On March 12, 2012, at approximately 6:30 p.m., Manassas City Police Officers responded to the 10200 block of Magnolia Grove Road, regarding a burglary. The victim told officers that his 12-year-old son was in the house with a younger sibling when they heard someone in the basement. The 12-year-old looked outside and saw a male, approximately 6’0” tall running from the house. The suspect was wearing a black sweatshirt, jeans, white shoes and gloves at the time of the incident. The homeowner checked the basement but could not find anything missing, however; officers did find an open sliding glass door in the basement. This investigation is ongoing.

Larceny
On March 5, 2012, at approximately 9:40 a.m., Manassas City Police Officers were called to the 9300 block of Center Street, regarding a larceny. The victim told officers that between Feb. 1, 2012 and Febr. 14, 2012, someone(s) stole three brass staircase post fixtures from his property. The fixtures were valued at approximately $1, 200. This investigation is ongoing.

Hit & Run
On March 10, 2012, at approximately 5:45 p.m., Manassas City Police Officers responded to the area of Signal Hill Road and Oakenshaw Drive. Upon their arrival, the victim told them that he was waiting at a red light when the driver of a red Honda Civic struck his vehicle. The victim also said that he observed the passenger of the offending vehicle exit the car and run away from the scene. A short time later, officers found and detained the passenger. The driver of the vehicle was described as a black male, approximately 5’6” – 5’7” tall, weighing approximately 190 lbs., with a short afro style haircut. The driver’s first name is possibly “Jason.” The victim’s vehicle, a 2005 Toyota, sustained approximately $1,600 in damages. This investigation is ongoing.

Indecent Liberties Arrest
On March 12, 2012, at approximately 9:45 p.m., a Manassas City Police Officer was patrolling in the area of the Wellington Shopping Center, located on Dumfries Road, when he came upon an occupied suspicious vehicle. The officer drove up to the vehicle when he observed a male jump from the back seat to the vehicle’s driver seat. The officer also observed a juvenile female in the back seat. The offender, David Orlando Sorto Cardona, 29, of 10373 Barrington Park Circle, was placed under arrest and charged with Contributing to the Delinquency of a Minor, due to the items that were found inside the vehicle. During a search of Sorto Cardona, two blank state inspection decals were found on his person. Sorto Cardona said that he took the decals from his place of work, a gas station. The female occupant, a 12-year old, was transported to the police department for further questioning.

The investigation concluded with Sorto Cardona being charged with Embezzlement, for the theft of the decals, Unlawful Possession of a State Inspection decals and Indecent Liberties By Custodian. Sorto Cardona was held at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center, with no bond. His court date was set for April 27, 2012
