Hit & Run
On Feb. 14, 2012, at approximately 7:30 p.m., a Manassas City police pfficer was patrolling the area of Church Street, near Grant Avenue, when he observed a vehicle that was involved in an accident. The driver advised the officer that a black Honda had struck her vehicle then left the area without exchanging information with her. The victim’s vehicle, a 2003 Mitsubishi, sustained approximately $1,100 in damages to its driver’s side door.
Found at the scene was the Honda’s front bumper and a Virginia license tag “XAY-5148.” A witness told the officer that he observed the driver of the Honda park in a nearby parking lot then run away. The offender was described as a 25 years old Hispanic male. The offending vehicle was towed to the Manassas City Police Department tow yard for further investigation. This investigation is ongoing.
Vandalism of community gazebo
On Feb. 14, 2012, Manassas City police officers were called to the 9300 block of Sumner Lake Boulevard, regarding a vandalism incident that occurred between 6 p.m. and 7:20 p.m. on the same date. A citizen advised officers that someone had vandalized the community gazebo by removing approximately 23 bricks from the steps pertaining to the gazebo. The vandalism was estimated at approximately $900. This investigation is ongoing.
Vandalism - Four tires slashed
On Feb. 15, 2012, Manassas City police pfficers responded to the 9700 block of Bragg Lane, regarding a vandalism incident. Upon their arrival, the victim told them that sometime between 7 p.m. on Feb. 14, 2012 and 4 a.m. on Feb.15, 2012, someone(s) slashed all four of his vehicle’s tires. The tires were estimated at approximately $200. This investigation is ongoing.
Larceny of catalytic converter
On Feb. 14, 2012, Manassas City police officers responded to the U-Haul Rental store, located at 10480 Dumfries Road, regarding a larceny. Management told officers that between 10:45 p.m., on Feb. 1, 2012 and 9 a.m. on Feb. 14, 2012, someone(s) stole a catalytic converter from one of the rental trucks. The stolen catalytic converter was valued at $500. The offender(s) attempted to steal another converter from another truck but were unable to do so. The damage to the second truck was estimated at approximately $500. This investigation is ongoing.
Larceny of GPS device
On Feb. 15, 2012, Manassas City police pfficers were summoned to the 8700 block of Ditmars Court, regarding a larceny. Once they arrived, they were told by the victim that sometime between 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 14, 2012 and 5.a.m. on Feb.15, 2012, someone(s) stole a Hill GPS device from his unlocked work van. The device was valued at approximately $150.
Residents are reminded not to leave anything of value inside their vehicles and to always keep their vehicles locked.
