Manassas City Police Beat 1/4/12

Robbery
Manassas City police officers are investigating a robbery that occurred at the “Walgreens Pharmacy” located at 9271 Sudley Road. The cashier advised officers that on Jan. 3, 2012, at approximately 11:45 p.m., a white male entered the store and handed her a note demanding pills. The suspect covered his identity by wearing a surgical mask. After being given the pills, the suspect was seen leaving in a black or dark colored Toyota Camry or Avalon.

Officers recovered surveillance video and evidence from a neighboring pharmacy, catching the suspect on video purchasing a pack of surgical masks. This purchase was made several minutes before the Walgreens pharmacy was robbed. The suspect is described as a white male with brown hair, approximately 20-30 years old, 6 feet tall and weighing approximately 170-190 lbs. This is an ongoing investigation.

Felonious Assault
On Jan. 2, 2012, at approximately 11 p.m., Manassas City police officers responded to Prince William Hospital, located at 8700 Sudley Road, regarding an unruly male who had armed himself with a pair of scissors. Officers were enroute when they were then advised that the male stabbed a visitor in the face with the scissors and was threatening others. Upon the officers’ arrival, they encountered the male, identified as Marlin Bradford Summerville, ordering him to drop the scissors. Summerville complied with officers’ command but was then shot with a stun device (T.A.S.E.R) after picking the scissors back up off the ground. The T.A.S.E.R device had no affect on Summerville.

Summerville exited the hospital still carrying the scissors, when he was shot again with the T.A.S.E.R, with negative results. Summerville was walking on Hospital Way when another officer arrived on scene and shot him with his T.A.S.E.R.  Pepper spray was also used on Summerville, after showing no reaction to the T.A.S.E.R. device. A Manassas City Police K-9 unit was called to the scene but Summerville, after being bit, lifted the dog while it was still attached to his arm.

Officers shot Summerville with the T.A.S.E.R. again, causing him to fall to the ground.?While Summerville was on the ground, officers, utilizing a ballistic shield, managed to pin Summerville’s hands to his chest. Summerville was still non-compliant so one officer struck him numerous times on his right wrist with an expandable baton (ASP) until Summerville released the scissors. Marlin Summerville, 32, was placed under arrest and transported back to the hospital for evaluation. While back at the hospital, Summerville became combative again, forcing the officers to T.A.S.E.R. him again. Immediately after being cleared from the hospital, Summerville was transported to the Prince William County Adult Detention Center, where he was held with no bond on charges of Malicious Wounding, Assault on Law Enforcement, Attempted Escape by Force, Abduction, Assault & Battery on a Health Care provider, Disorderly Conduct on Hospital Grounds, Obstruction of Justice and Resisting Arrest. His court date was set for Jan. 24, 2012.

Narcotics Arrest
On Dec. 29, 2011, at approximately 3:15 p.m., a Manassas City police officer was patrolling in the 9400 block of Taney Road when he observed the driver of a Dodge Neon commit a traffic offense. The officer stopped the vehicle, when the driver identified himself as Preston Daniels. Further investigation revealed that Daniels’ real name was Christopher Lee Rice, 24, of Chantilly, VA.

During the interview, Rice managed to discard what appeared to be crack cocaine, then attempted to run from officers, with negative results. Rice was placed under arrest and charged with False Identification to Law Enforcement and Obstruction of Justice. During a search of his person, officers found a crack cocaine pipe and a plastic bag containing a green leafy substance, which turned out to be synthetic marijuana, also known as “K-2.” Rice was also charged with Possession of a Schedule I or II Narcotic, Possession of Synthetic Cannabinoids and was also served with an outstanding warrant from Fairfax County. Rice was also issued a traffic summons for the original traffic violation, illegal window tinting. He was held at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center, with no bond. His court date was set for March 13, 2012.

Assault Arrest
Manassas City police officers were called to the “Super 8” motel, located at 8691 Phoenix Drive, regarding an assault. Once they arrived, they were advised that a couple had gotten into an argument and that a female had been punched in the face. After interviewing all parties involved, Officers placed Roger Lee Morgan, 44, of Chantilly, VA, under arrest and charged him with Assault. During a search of his person, a marijuana smoking device was found in Morgan’s pocket. Morgan was also charged with Possession of Marijuana and held at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center, on a $3,000 bond. His court date was set for Jan. 24, 2012.
