Manassas City Police Beat 11/7/11

Thefts from Autos
Manassas City police officers are investigating two thefts from autos that occurred sometime throughout last week. The first incident occurred between 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 2, 2011 and 6:40 a.m. on Nov. 3, 2011, in the 8900 block of Princeton Park Drive. The victim advised officers that someone(s) gained entry into his vehicle and stole a Garmin Nuvi GPS unit, valued at approximately $275, a Valentine radar detector, valued at approximately $400 and a prescription bottle containing approximately 30 Zanax pills. The victim also advised that all the stolen items had been left in plain view inside the vehicle.

The second incident occurred between 11:30 p.m. on Nov. 2 and 10 p.m. on Nov. 3, 2011, in the area of Burnside Road and Confederate Trail. The victim advised officers that he was alerted by his car alarm when he discovered that someone had opened his car door, which was unlocked at the time of the theft, and stole his car stereo, unknown name brand. The stereo was valued at over $350.

Residents are reminded not to leave anything of value inside their vehicles and to always keep their vehicles locked.

Trespass Arrest
On Nov. 4, 2011, at approximately 9:35 p.m., Manassas City police officers were called to the 9500 block of Nittany Drive, regarding a Hispanic male subject on the victim’s second floor balcony. Upon the officers’ arrival, they found the male on a ledge located between the first and second floor of the building. The offender would not adhere to the officers’ command only because he did not know how to climb back down from the ledge. After assisting the suspect from the ledge, officers learned the offender was a juvenile.

The juvenile admitted to officers that he was cutting school and decided to visit a friend who lived in the complex. After knocking on the friend’s door numerous times, the juvenile decided to climb up to the third floor window only to get stuck half way up. The juvenile was released to his parents and the case will be handled within the Juvenile Intake Office.

Narcotics & DUI Arrest
On Oct. 29, 2011, at approximately 7:55 p.m., a Manassas City police officer was patrolling the area of Sudley Road and Forestwood Lane, when he observed the driver of a silver Dodge pick-up truck commit a traffic infraction. Further investigation revealed that the driver of the vehicle, Alejandro Sosa Turijan, was intoxicated. Sosa Turijan was placed under arrest for the said charge.

During a search of the vehicle, a small baggie of marijuana, along with a “BB” gun, was found inside. Alejandro Sosa Turijan, 24, of 9720 Aspen Place, was placed under arrest and charged with Driving Under the Influence (2nd offense), Possession of Marijuana, Driving Without an Operator’s License and Disregarding a Traffic Signal. He was held at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center on a $2, 500 bond. His court date was set for Nov. 29, 2011.

Attempted Burglary Arrest
On Nov. 3, 2011, Manassas City police officers were summoned to the 9100 block of Wharton Court, regarding a past burglary attempt. The victim advised officers that she recently moved into the area to escape her ex-boyfriend and father of their children, Quentin Renald Hopkins, 29, of 10101 Henry Court.

She said that during the evening hours of Nov. 3, 2011, Hopkins appeared at her new residence and attempted to gain entry into the house while yelling at her through the door. Hopkins left the area only after one of his relatives arrived on scene and advised him to leave. According to the victim, Hopkins has also left intimidating e-mail messages placing her in fear of her life.

Hopkins was located a short time later and charged with Attempted Burglary and Stalking. He was held at the Prince William County Adult Detention Center, on a $3,000 bond. His court date was set for Jan. 4, 2012.
