The Virginia Aviation Board has approved a $46,014 grant to Manassas Airport for terminal loop road rehabilitation, according to a news release.
The Manassas Airport project was among 30 construction and system improvement projects totaling $6.4 million approved by the VAB at its Aug. 17 meeting.
According to a news release from the Virginia Department of Aviation Services, the projects that were funded ranged from $1.75 million to improve and expand a general aviation apron at Richmond International Airport to $7,600 to acquire an easement that would permit the removal of an obstruction that could affect safe takeoffs and landings at Chesapeake Regional Airport.
“The Virginia Aviation Board awarded more than $6.4 million to fund critical projects that will enable these 25 airports to better serve their customers; to help ensure safe flying, and to attract new business,” Mark Flynn, director of the Virginia Department of Aviation, was quoted as saying in the news release. “Virginia’s 66 public-use airports are gateways to the nation’s air transportation system and connect the Commonwealth to the global economy,” he added.
Aviation is a $23 billion economic engine that supports 146,660 jobs and brings in more than 10 million visitors annually to Virginia, the release stated.
