Major traffic shifts in Gainesville overnight Tuesday, May 26

Overnight Tuesday, May 26, traffic on southbound US 29 between I-66 and Linton Hall Road will be shifted onto the new bridge over the railroad tracks and the ramp from eastbound I-66 to southbound Route 29 (at Exit 43A) will be reopened.

In addition, the traffic signal at US 29 and Linton Hall Road/Route 55 will be removed, with Linton Hall/Route 55 traffic being shifted onto the new overpass. All activities are weather permitting.

Following the traffic shift, work will begin to complete the ramps from VA 55 to southbound US 29 and from northbound US 29 to Linton Hall.

Detours will be in place while these ramps are under construction. Motorists heading from northbound US 29 to eastbound Linton Hall and from eastbound VA 55 to southbound US 29 will be detoured via temporary ramps. Those on westbound Linton Hall heading to southbound US 29 will be detoured via Wellington Road and University Boulevard.

The final Gainesville traffic switch is scheduled to occur this summer with the completion of all ramps connecting Linton Hall/VA 55 to US 29.

The Virginia Department of Transportation’s $230 million Gainesville Improvements project is scheduled for completion this summer.
