Local man, 20, charged with assaulting a police officer

Assault and Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] – On Nov. 3, 2021 at 6:21PM Prince William County Police officers responded to a residence located in the 2900 block of Seminole Rd. in Woodbridge (22192) to locate a man, later identified as the accused, who had active warrants for his arrest.

Upon making contact with the accused and informing him he was under arrest, the accused initially refused to follow officers’ commands before being taken into custody. As officers were escorting the accused to a police vehicle, the accused actively resisted before striking officers and refusing to follow officer’s commands. After a brief struggle, the accused was re-secured without further incident. The accused was transported to an area hospital for minor injuries sustained during the altercation and released. The officers reported minor injuries. Following the investigation, the accused identified as Douglas James CHERRY, was arrested.
