For those of us living in, or traveling through, the Brentsville District, road construction seems to be everywhere we go. Despite the inconvenience these projects cause, the result is one that will ultimately improve our ability to move from one place to another.
• Balls Ford Road Interchange- This project, done to compliment the I66 widening, is slated to be mostly done by this December, with full completion during the Summer of 2023.
• Route 28 Widening- The county portion of this project is complete, with all lanes now open northbound. Work in and by the City of Manassas continues. The long-awaited signal at Pennsylvania and Rt. 28 is in and functioning.
• University Blvd. Extension- Right of way purchase is complete and construction has begun with utility work underway. This project is schedule to be complete by July of 2024.
• PW Parkway & University Blvd - This new interchange, designed to improve the flow of traffic on the PW Parkway, began work this past July and should be done by Winter of 2023.
• Devlin Road Widening North- This is an extension of the Balls Ford Road Interchange project and will reach up to the new University Blvd/Devlin Rd. intersection. Right of Way purchase is ongoing with construction planned to begin Spring of 2024 and ending in Spring 2025.
• Sudley Manor Sidewalk - Funding for completion of the missing sidewalk segment from Victory Lakes to Linton Hall has been secured. A timeline for the project will be provided in the next newsletter.
• Additionally, VDOT has been working to repave numerous roads in the Brentsville District. The amount of money available for repaving is dependent on the dollars spent on winter weather treatments and plowing. Whatever is left in the budget after winter, goes to repairs and repaving. VDOT has a priority list based on road condition. Any road not reached this year, is carried over to the next budget year’s list. Just like other segments of the economy, VDOT has endured supply chain issues which delayed the painting of lines on the newly paved roads causing concern by residents. The wet weather added to the delays.
