A community tradition, the Thanksgiving Day Dinner at Old Bridge United Methodist Church in Lake Ridge, is taking a year off, but will return in 2016. Old Bridge has hosted the dinner for some 20 years.
Prince of Peace United Methodist Church, located on Token Forest Drive, will hold its first Thanksgiving Day Dinner this year. Prince of Peace has a Manassas mailing address, but is located mid-county, off Hoadly Rd.
“Unfortunately, circumstances beyond our control will prevent us from holding this community outreach event [this year],” said Jim McCray, the executive director of Old Bridge Church. “Several of the key folks who have coordinated all the preparations for the dinner in the past were either unavailable or are no longer [members of the church.] We didn’t have anybody available to step in and take on the significant task of leading and coordinating this wonderful event.”
“The good news is Old Bridge Church already has a couple who have stepped up and volunteered to lead the event next year. We’re already looking forward to once again hosting a Thanksgiving Day Dinner for the community” said McCray.
Prince of Peace United Methodist Church, located on Token Forest Dr, will hold its first Thanksgiving Day event this year.
“The dinner is scheduled for Thanksgiving Day, from noon until 2 p.m.,” said Trish Skaar, church administrator.
“Anyone from the community is invited and there is no cost. We’ll be serving traditional Thanksgiving fare,” Skaar said.
“This is our first year, so we’re hoping it goes well, she said.
