Lake Ridge Lions offering $1000 scholarship

Lake Ridge Lions are accepting applications for a $1,000 scholarship from qualified students. Applications must be received by the Scholarship Committee by April 15th.

The Lions Memorial Scholarship, given for 40+ years, is awarded to a student living in Lake Ridge (22192) who exemplifies the spirit of service to others, a spirit that was the hallmark in the lives of fellow Lions, James Dunivin, Horace Franklin, Donald Keyes, Bill Briggs, and Gina Reyes. 

These merit scholarships, to be used toward post-secondary education, will be awarded to 2016 graduates based on his/her demonstrated service to the community, principally Lake Ridge, Woodbridge, or eastern Prince William County. 

Of particular interest to the Lions, though not required, is service specifically related to sight or hearing programs.  Academic achievement,  school and outside activities will also be considered during the selection process. 

For submission, applicants must be accepted to an accredited institution.  Payment of the scholarship will be made directly to the institution.

WE SERVE is the motto of Lions world-wide.  Serving the community is important to Lions and imbuing that ethic in the generations that follow will ensure this legacy continues.  Recognizing students who believe in the spirit of volunteerism is one of the ways Lions hope to promote that legacy.

Applications and detailed information may be obtained from guidance counselors at Prince William County High Schools and other high schools attended by area students. 

All students who live in Lake Ridge may also receive an application via the Lions website at http://www.lakeridgelionsclub.org  .

Applications received by April 15, 2016 will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee.  Selection for the scholarship award is expected to be made in early May.
