Icy conditions, freezing temperatures, snow bands moving through northern Virginia, says VDOT

FAIRFAX—(8 a.m.)  As snow from a storm impacting most of the state moves into northern Virginia, drivers are asked to avoid unnecessary travel through snow bands. Even with treatment, below-freezing temperatures will quickly make even a dusting slippery, and slow-moving treatment trucks need room to work.

About 1,350 pieces of equipment in northern Virginia will remain on duty through the day to treat roads for one to three inches of snow forecast for the region.

Drivers are also urged to be aware of road conditions and weather reports to avoid driving into surrounding areas with much heavier storm impacts—south toward Stafford, Fredericksburg and beyond, and to postpone any travel to points south and east in Virginia.
