Recently, the members of the Hylton High School varsity cheerleading squad were awarded their state championship rings and banners. This team was undefeated going into the state competition this year, having won first place in all six of their competitions. They are the 2017 All County champions, Cardinal District champions, Occoquan Region champion and Class 6 state champs.
This is the second time that Hylton’s cheerleaders have held the state championship title, winning it previously in 1998. Helping with the ceremony were members of the 1998 cheerleading squad; Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Stephen Walts; Coles District School Board Member William Deutsch; Associate Superintendent of High Schools, Mickey Mulgrew; and Supervisor of Student Activities, Kelly Gardner.
The Hylton Varsity Cheerleaders are: Asha Archie, Nia Adams, Lanija Barbour, Naomi Cross, Jaden Deristel, Janel Gaskins, Stephen Goytia, Lauren Green, Julia Guevara, Alayah Martin, Asiyah Martin, Kyrah Miller, Paris Norris, Kyanna Powell, Chloe Pressley, McKyah Roberts, DeAnna Wright. The team is coached by Shawnice Wright and Fatima Poole, with Sheldon Bullock providing choreography.
