HomeAid Northern Virginia and SevaTruck plan to deliver food and winter essentials to homeless people living in “Tent Cities” in Woodbridge on Dec. 9.
On the heels of National Hunger & Homelessness Awareness week (Nov. 11-17) and heading into colder temperatures, HomeAid Northern Virginia reports that its members are partnering with SevaTruck to distribute hot food, blankets and winter essentials directly to people living in “tent cities” in Woodbridge, this Saturday, Dec. 9.
The groups plan to stage in the parking lot of the Prince William County Drop-In Center, 14716 Potomac Mills Rd., Woodbridge, to distribute hot food, blankets and other winter essentials . The center is ringed by woods that contain several tent cities, a news release stated.
While Northern Virginia is home to some of the state’s wealthiest neighborhoods, the region is not immune from homelessness. Surrounded by beautiful homes and corporate campuses, thousands in the region still lack stable housing. In Woodbridge alone, Woodbridge Helping Us Grow Strong (HUGS) and others estimate there are approximately 400-500 homeless individuals in Woodbridge and as many as 30-50 tent cities in the area.
HomeAid Northern Virginia (HANV) builds and renovates homeless shelters and supportive housing facilities via donated expertise, labor and resources of local homebuilders. Since its creation 16 years ago, HANV has completed more than 119 projects serving more than 98,500 homeless individuals in Northern Virginia.
