HHS Secretary Becerra in Dumfries Monday, Sept. 25 to highlight progress in Latino health equity

According to a news release, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra (pronounced Ha-vee-air Beh-sehr-rah) will travel to Dumfries, to highlight the progress made to advance Latino health equity under the Biden-Harris Administration.

The news release said Secretary Becerra will participate in a fireside chat which will focus on Latino health.  The chat is to be moderated by Del. Elizabeth Guzman, the release said.

According to the news release, President Biden’s Bipartisan Unity Agenda and Fiscal Year 2024 budget prioritizes investments to close health disparities. HHS continues to work to ensure that individuals, families, and communities – including those in the Latino community – can go to sleep at night with the peace of mind that comes with having access to quality, affordable health care.

The release said, “HHS has undertaken several noteworthy initiatives to improve health services for Latinos. These include lowering the cost of prescription drugs through the Inflation Reduction Act, launching the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline with Spanish language text and chat services, expanding meaningful access to language assistance services for individuals with limited English proficiency across HHS divisions, and ensuring greater diversity in clinical trials for long COVID care.”
