Haymarket Mayor Pam Stutz definitely will not be on the ballot in the town election to be held on May 8 and how many members of the current town council will be running is open to question. Four of the six council members said they haven’t decided yet whether to run. One, David Leake, said he is running for re-election.

After a decade of involvement in town government, “it’s time for someone else to come forward who has new ideas,” Stutz said.

She noted that she has been a town official since 2000, first as a council member and since 2005 as mayor. The native of Massachusetts moved to Haymarket in 1996.

Stutz said she will remain active, just not politically. She is the administrator and chief warden at St. Paul’s Church in Haymarket and will continue her work there. She said she will also remain involved with the Haymarket Food Pantry, which she was instrumental in starting.

Stutz said the community feel of Haymarket first drew her to the town and she said she hopes future town leaders “will keep it as a community.”
