Get ready! Prince William County schools start before Labor Day

The first day of school in Prince William County will be Monday, Aug. 31, 2015. The school calendar features 181 days of instruction with 14 days of conferences or professional development/workdays for a total of 195 days. The last day of school for students will be Friday, June 17, 2016.

Holidays include Veterans Day (observed Nov. 11), three days for students and teachers for Thanksgiving (Nov. 25-27), New Year’s Day (Jan. 1), Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Jan. 18), Presidents’ Day (Feb. 15), and Memorial Day (May 30).

The PWCS Connect orientation and induction program for new teachers will be held Aug. 20-21, 2015. Teacher professional development/workdays for returning teachers will be on Aug. 24-28. All teachers will report to their schools on August 24.

Schools will be closed on Monday, Oct. 12 (Columbus Day) and on Nov. 2 for a teacher professional development/workday. Schools also closed on Nov. 3 for a Parent Conference Day.

This year Thanksgiving break for students and teachers will include 3 full days, Nov. 25-27. Winter break will give students and teachers a full two weeks off from classes, stretching from Monday, Dece. 21-Friday, Jan. 1. School will resume on Monday, Jan. 4, 2016.

February 1 all schools will be closed for a professional development/workday. Schools are also closed for the Presidents’ Day Holiday on February 15, however it is a potential make-up day.

Spring break for students and teachers runs from March 21–28. Schools will be closed on Monday, April 18, for a teacher professional development/workday, however it is also a potential make-up day.

Teacher professional development/workdays will be held on Monday, June 20 and Tuesday, June 21. June 20 is a potential make-up day.

The annual school calendar is reviewed by employee groups, organizations, and councils prior to being submitted to the School Board for approval each December.
